Elders Who Visited Tigray Hold Talks with Minister of Peace

A group of respected elders who travelled to the Tigray Region to support peace efforts have held a significant meeting with the Minister of Peace, Ato Mohammed Idris, and senior federal government officials.

The elders said their mission was inspired by a recent address by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to the parliament, where he urged traditional leaders and community elders to take a more active role in fostering national peace and reconciliation.

Heeding the call, the elders journeyed to Tigray and engaged in meaningful dialogue with various stakeholders, urging all parties to prioritise unity, harmony, and lasting peace.

Following their visit, the elders requested a meeting with key federal officials to share their findings and continue the dialogue. In response, the Ministry of Peace facilitated a discussion led by Minister Mohammed Idris.

The Minister commended the delegation for their initiative and highlighted the critical role elders play in preserving Ethiopia’s national values and promoting peaceful coexistence.

Minister Mohammed Idris reiterated the federal government’s dedication to ensuring long-term peace in the Tigray region. He noted that alongside peacebuilding efforts, the government has taken significant steps to support the economic and social development of the region.

“The government is working tirelessly to ensure that the people of Tigray benefit from uninterrupted development activities,” he said.

The elders, representing communities from across Ethiopia, pledged to continue their mission as peace ambassadors. They called on all citizens, civil society, and religious leaders to join hands in promoting dialogue, healing, and national unity.

This meeting between the elders and federal officials marks another step toward rebuilding trust and fostering inclusive peace across Ethiopia.

As efforts continue on all fronts, community-led initiatives like this remain vital to long-term national reconciliation.
